Biography

 

Frederico Câmara is a Brazilian artist and researcher currently living in São Paulo, Brazil. His interests include the human perceptions and representations of the environment, migration, photography and traveling as research methods, collecting and archiving in art practice, and the interdisciplinarity of Art with the Natural Sciences, Anthropology, Architecture, Sculpture and Design. His research output is usually in the form of photographic and video installations, books, and text. He studied for a PhD Contemporary Art at the University of Sydney, Sydney College of the Arts, Australia; MA Fine Art at the Chelsea College of Art and Design, University of the Arts London, UK; and BFA Printmaking at the Escola de Belas Artes / UFMG, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

 

His work has taken him around the world on artist residencies, fellowships and exhibitions including the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, Germany, Pavilion and the Henry Moore Institute, both in Leeds. He is the recipient of various awards, including the Unesco Aschberg Bursary for Artists, the Brasil Arte Contemporânea Award from the São Paulo Biennial Foundation, the Darwin Now Award from the British Council, the Marcantonio Vilaça Award for the Visual Arts and the Funarte Award for Contemporary Art.

 

Frederico Câmara has been a visiting artist in a number of universities and Visiting Assistant Professor of Photography at the School of Creative Media of the City University of Hong Kong.
